Astrology is the science of the effects of the
planets movements on our lives and all things. Astrology is
based on astronomy in that astrologers need to know the correct
positions of the planets at any given time, as well as the correct
positions of the zodiacal fixed star signs in relation to any
place on earth at any given time.
What's
Your Sign?
When people ask this question, what they really mean is, what
is your sun sign. Your sun sign is the predominant influence
on your personality, but not the only one. Each sign has its
own potential strengths, which you should develop, and weaknesses,
which you should minimize.
The
position, or aspects of the planets in the sky at your exact
moment of birth have a heavy hand in your horoscope. Your natal
chart is used to spot these aspects, and advise you on the tendancies
you have and the experiences you may have to deal with in your
life.
Is
it a science? Is it magic? Is it evil? These are all questions
I have heard regarding astrology. Despite the fact that astrology
is so common and you can find your horoscope in just about every
newspaper in the world, very few people really know that much
beyond their sun sign and what influences it has on them.
The
first step in finding out what those aspects are is to have
your natal chart done. You can get a free
natal chart from Astro Lab, or other sites on the internet.
The BEST
Free Natal Chart
is from Astro-Dienst. The Interactive Astroclick Portrait will
tell you the planet positions, the houses, and even provide
interpretations from two very well-respected Astrologers.
Once
you have your natal chart, you will know where the planets were
at the time of your birth, as well as determine your rising
sign or Ascendant.
The
Ascendant in your horoscope indicates the ways in
which you interact with the world around you, the energies you
put out and the energies you receive from others. The sign of
the Ascendant is as important as the Sun sign, and its effects
are often more obvious to other people.
The Moon,
which is the most important sign after those of the Sun and
the Ascendant, describes how you express your emotions and how
well you deal with them. The Moon shows your basic emotional
patterns, your habits, unconscious attitudes and feelings and
whether or not you feel supported within the universe. The Moon
also tells a great deal about your attitude toward your own
past and the historical past. The placement of the Moon often
describes your relationship with your mother.
Venus, Mercury and Mars
are faster planets, and their influence is greater than the
slower moving planets like Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus & Pluto.
Jupiter is
a slower moving planet that stays in the same sign for about
a year. Its sign has a direct personal effect on you only if
Jupiter is close to opposition or conjunction with the Ascendant
or Midheaven, or if it forms a conjunction, square or opposition
aspect with one of the more personal planets, such as the Sun,
Moon, Venus, Mercury or Mars. Otherwise it affects you largely
as part of the generation you belong to.
The house position of Jupiter tells about the
areas of life in which you seek to grow and attain the most
freedom. Jupiter increases the range of experience in the areas
of your life that it affects and helps you grow beyond the limited
world of your youth. The sign that Jupiter is in modifies your
manner of growth and tells what methods you will use in trying
to grow. Jupiter is closely connected to religious and spiritual
concerns as well as to wisdom and higher kinds of knowledge.
The transits of the moon, sun, and planets create
relationships between your natal chart and the current planetary
positions. These transits are what astrologers use to make forecasts...much
as a weatherman watches cloud patterns and storm fronts. These
relationships, or transits are what make up your true daily
horoscope because they take into account your own personal planetary
aspects and not just what sign the sun was in when you were
born. For interpretations that directly relate to your natal
chart, you can visit the websites above, or you can look the
information up in books. There are several very good ones that
I have used over the years.
Planets
in Transit : Life Cycles for Living (The Planet Series)
by Robert Hand |
|
With
all the nonsense written about astrology it's good to
have a reliable book to explain the daily influences in
your horoscope. This book is not for novices. You have
to know the fundamentals of astrology to use it. You also
need your natal
chart and an ephemeris. Once you know where the planets
were when you were born, you can find the transits, or
current positions of the planets in relationship to where
the planets were when you were born. These transits are
a true indication of your horoscope.
By
using these charts and the information from Planets
in Transit, I found that Saturn was coming into conjuntion
(or exact alignment) with my sun sign. This can mean a
time of great change and upset in your life. I used it
to my advantage as an opportunity to quit my job and make
a transition to working from home. It was a bumpy ride,
but I was prepared and it was a very sucessful transition
for me.

If you are not the do-it-yourself type, you can have
your horoscope done by a professional astrologer. You
can find one in your area, or you can have your horoscope
done on-line. You can get a Personal
Horoscope Calendar by Robert Hand which is excellent.
The Personal Horoscope Calendar tells you about the transits
that influence you - you can read about them in advance
or in retrospect, when something makes you wonder what
on earth has been going on. You can order a full year
for $59.95 or a single month for $9.95. This saves you
a ton of time combing through the ephemeris looking for
planetary aspects and then looking them up...it's all
laid out for you in a simple, easy-to-read report by the
premeire Astrologist of our time.
Johnathan Cainer also does a personal horoscope that
is quite good.
