Our 10 Questions
Steve Page

With 100,000 plus people coming to a race it’s like putting a camel through the eye of a needle. But it’s getting better.

2. The environment has always been a big issue where Sears Point is concerned. Is it a bigger problem here than at other major tracks?

Yes, for a lot of reasons. From the fact that because of our location we have a very wide variety of challenges, to the reality that California has environmental laws that are unique, to say the least.

3. Is there a typical Sears Point race fan?

Yes. People who eat.

It was 1971. I grew up in Monterey and they used to hire kids from the high school to make sure people didn’t sneak into the track (Laguna Seca). The next race I saw was in 1991, when I took this job. I’ve seen a lot since.

5. How many other tracks in this country have a “Wine Forum” on their website?

As far as I know, we’re the only one.

6. How much money does Sears Point bring into the area?

Around $70 million a year in Sonoma County alone.

7. How do race drivers compare to other professional athletes?

Physically they are every bit as fit. But what sets them apart is the incredible level of concentration they have. It’s extreme.

8. Food is a big deal in Wine Country. How’s the food at Sears Point?

It has always been okay, but it’s about to take a major step forward. With the new facilities we have now, it’s going to be first class. The fans in this area expect that. Food is a very high priority for me.

9. Is all the money ($50 million) that has been put into the track over the last five years really going to pay off?

Yes.

10. When was the last time you got a speeding ticket?

I’ve only had one in the last ten years, but it was a doozy.
